What I’ve Finished/What I’m Reading

Finished:

1. Stiff by Mary Roach: About cadavers and morality and preservation and ritual. Incredibly insightful and humorous.

2. We Regret to Inform You that Tomorrow We Will be Killed with our Families by Philip Gourevitch. About Rwanda, the history, the atrocities, the good and bad and gray. Heartbreaking and necessary. I’ll be teaching this book in my senior capstone course in the fall.

3. Rock Springs by Richard Ford. This is my third time through the book, so yes, I think it’s amazing. A collection of stories set near and around Montana about masculinity and hard lives and enough slivers of joy to keep the characters waking up the next day.

Reading:

1. Latest edition of The Sun, The Cincinnati Review, and The Indiana Review.

2. The English Patient by Michael Ondaatje. Every sentence matters. Narrative poetry. Incredible.

3. Imagining Argentina by Lawrence Thornton. Mystical and heartbreaking.
