Getting ready for AWP

The massive AWP conference is in Denver this year, and I’m headed up with a great group for the three day event. I’ll be working the War, Literature & the Arts Journal table, and hitting more panels than I can count. I hope to run into many old friends and meet some new ones.

The Fallible War Hero: Sergeant James in The Hurt Locker

Tonight, I’m working on a conference paper about William James, the protaganist in Mark Boal’s The Hurt Locker. The discourse is amazing and varied. Many love the movie, praise it’s personal focus, and find William James an appropriate representation of the danger and bravery needed in EOD work. WLA Conference Heating Up

We’re (Department of English) proud of our upcoming WLA Conference, which has Mark Boal heading out as a keynote speaker. Mark is the screenwriter and producer of The Hurt Locker, up for many Academy Awards this evening!
